What Is the Point of Knowing Everything?

This question hangs in my mind since forever and I haven't found the answer yet. What is the point of knowing everything? I'd like to know the answer. Did I ask the same question twice? Yes,I did. That question itches my brain a lot.

It is good to know many things or in other words, it is nice to have Wikipedia Brain and Google Mind. You have everything you need in your brain and you can share it to many people too. Perfect, isn't it?
People will think you are smart.
People will ask a lot of questions to you.
People will ask you to discuss.
People will pay you high respect.
and people will talk behind your back at last L.O.L

Socrates said the best thing I know is I know nothing. So, what is the point of knowing everything then?
In my opinion, it is good to know many things but please watch out your manner. Being smart or being above the line is a gift and you should thank God for that. Please don't misuse your knowledge to discredit other people, please don't ever discredit others and think you are the best of all. That is so annoying, really. What did I say? I am sorry for the flash-intermezzo here, I just want to write so then I can think of the answer.
Do I have to remind you that YOU ARE NOT GOD?
Knowledge you may have,
reason you may have,
theory you may have,
but they will not help you at all.

Hmm, maybe Socrates popped out such phrase to remind us; to keep our head down low and respect others.
Well said, uncle Socrates!

  1. Maybe the phrase "Knowing everything" is not complete yet... the complete one is "Knowing everything we need to know". So, knowing is a very subjective matter.

Btw, I assume what socrates means behind "the best thing i know is i know nothing" is not knowing is the root of knowledge. If we consider that we have already known everything then we will stop seeking for knowledge...

For me, i don't want to know everything... but i do observe, read and learn everything that i think can add value to my life. I believe, the more knowledge we have, the bigger opportunity we have to help others...

Arrogancy is different topic. It is separated from knowledge itself.. There are no direct connection between knowledge and arrogancy... people can be arrogant though they have less knowledge or vice versa, people can be humble though they have lots of knowledge. So, if you see someone being arrogant for their knowledge (though they have to question about their knowledge at least twice or more), it's not about the knowledge. It's about their character. So, i agree with you that "Socrates popped out such phrase to remind us; to keep our head down low and respect others". Next, i believe, that arrogancy is a closed door to knowledge. Meanwhile, the feeling of not knowing is the key...

So, i choose to know everything i need to make my life worth living for me and others...

    What do you think?

  2. Hello Mas Nu, thank you for the comment, I really appreciate it, it broaden my mind a lot.

Well, actually the purpose of this writing is to criticize someone L.O.L
He is smart but he is so annoying. He is far from the word arrogant, he is.... well, I cant find the exact word to describe him. He act like he knows the best and that's annoying.

It is good to know many things even the things that has no relation with 'our needs'. Despite the knowledge we have, we can satisfy ourselves by knowing many things.

The problem is 'the way we act with or without knowledge in our mind', I think. To be arrogant or to be low profile is a choice and each choice has its own risk.
We can use knowledge as a weapon to attack others' weakness or as a weapon to share to others.

and I'll choose the second option :)
I would like to know many things but I dont want to know everything L.O.L

"Btw, I assume what socrates means behind "the best thing i know is i know nothing" is not knowing is the root of knowledge. If we consider that we have already known everything then we will stop seeking for knowledge..."

  4. Kenya, why do we have to see something that we don't like? Just don't see it... That is why "knowing" is so important. Existence is having close relationship to knowing... Something will have their existence because we know it. So, imho, if you don't want something to be exist in your subjective consciousness, then just "not knowing" it... then it will disappear to none-existence. "Nothing is nothing until we consider it as something"

// Yeah... i really like to have deep conversation with you.... :)

  5. Btw, smart is really small thing... the big thing is meaning... smart is nothing if doesn't have meaning... Is it wiser not to value smartness to high...? :)
